Lan Shui

Conductor

Born 1958 in China, Lan Shui made his professional conducting debut in 1986 with the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing, and was later appointed Conductor of the Beijing Symphony.

Since then, he has conducted major Symphony Orchestras around the world, such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He has worked with soloists such as a.m.o. violinist Pinchas Zuckerman, Gil Shaham, Maxim Vengerov, Hilary Hahn, cellist Yo Yo Ma and pianist Elizabeth Leonskaja.

He joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and helped raise its profile to world standards. Besides signing an exclusive recording contract with the international label BIS, Lan Shui is also passionate about premiering and commissioning new works.
