Ula Ulijona

Viola

Ula Ulijona, born in Vilnius, Lithuania, studied with P. Radzevicius in Vilnius, Hatto Beyerle in Basel and Tabea Zimmermann in Berlin, and attended masterclasses with Yuri Bashmet, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gerard Caussé and Veronica Hagen.

Ms. Ulijona won several international competitions including the W.A.Mozart competition in Vilnius and William Primrose International Viola Competition in Chicago, USA. She has performed as a soloist with a.m.o. Boston Symphony Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Moscow Soloists, and worked with such conductors as Kurt Sanderling, Yuri Bashmet, Heinrich Schiff, Gidon Kremer, Kent Nagano and Sir Simon Rattle.

Ula Ulijona has been the solo viola player and leader of the viola group in Kremerata Baltica, since it was founded in 1997. She has played in major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London and Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and has appeared at prestigious festivals such as Aspen, Verbier, Lockenhaus and Elba. Since 2008 she has been a member of the Petersen Quartet.
