Songs in the Wind over Mols
There are still musicians who dare to think on a grand scale without losing touch with the fragile. Kristeligt Dagblad reviews five of the most interesting new albums of the moment.
Jakob Buchanan – The Mols Booklet of Melodies
OUR Recordings
On the double album The Mols Booklet of Melodies, composer and trumpeter Jakob Buchanan turns his gaze towards the hills and landscapes of Mols. The music was written in a circus wagon on Thorup Mark, overlooking the countryside, with melodies by the local fiddler Peter Madsen serving as its raw material. Past and present suddenly inhabit the same pulse, and it resonates with a distinctly East Jutland character.
Together with a remarkable ensemble featuring Anders Jormin (double bass), Simon Toldam (piano), and Chris Speed (saxophone), Buchanan brings old dance tunes such as the lively Hopsa på Skødshoved back to life as improvised musical landscapes. Buchanan, who has previously created large-scale works such as Requiem (2015), Songs To The Green Land (2019), On Rosenhill, and Song & Wind (2023), moves closer to the earth this time. The music feels like a walk through Tved and its surroundings.
This is cultural heritage as a living, breathing art form. The local tourist association must be applauding. Andreo Michaelo, June 19

Sange i vinden over Mols
Jakob Buchanan. ”The Mols Booklet of Melodies”. OUR Recordings.
Andreo Michaelo, June 19th
