Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895–1968) was an Italian composer best known for his nearly 100 works for guitar, several of them quite extensive, including the collection Platero y Yo, 28 pieces lasting nearly two hours.
The work is based on a famous fable by the Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, a cherished piece of Spanish literature.
There are few recordings of Tedesco’s work, but in typical OUR Recordings fashion, it has been released as a double CD featuring Danish guitarist Niklas Johansen, accompanied by a 72-page booklet. The title? Simply “Platero and I”, Platero being a donkey.
